When should I consider a move to supportive living?
The very best time to consider a move to any type of senior residence is well before you need to. Take all the time you need to review the available options and choose the residence that suits you best.
Ask yourself the following questions:
Am I eating regular, nutritious meals?
Am I able to or do I want to, prepare meals for myself?
Is it becoming more difficult to keep up with housekeeping chores?
-
Is yard work and maintaining my home becoming difficult?
Do I wish I had more time for hobbies?
Am I lonely and would I benefit from having social interaction?
-
Am I becoming more dependent on my friends or family for things I used to do myself?
If you answered yes to one or more of the questions, now may be the right time, but remember now is always a good time to review your choices.
Making a move is challenging at any stage of life, but sometimes staying where we are is no longer the best choice. Many seniors have found that moving into a supportive living environment helps them regain some lost ground. It can increase your social interaction, bring balance to your nutritional needs and increase your sense of security. As a result, your health and well being can even improve. You are still independent, without the worries of cooking and housekeeping and and now life can be enjoyed to the fullest again.
